Beer Buzz reader Randy Starks - best known for his camera work with Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library events - reports Bloomington Brewing Company's newly released Java Stout is "outstanding." Brewmaster Floyd Rosenbaum crafts this annual autumn brew with roasted barley malts for sweetness and German Select hops for bitterness. He adds ten pounds of Partridge & Quigley's dark roasted Sumatran Blue Lingtong coffee to the boil kettle to give Java Porter its unique coffee aroma and flavor. Rosenbaum brews only unfiltered and unpasteurized ales, which he describes as "guaranteeing a fresh and natural pint of beer every time." BCC is "attached to" Lennie's, founded in 1989 as the first Bloomington eatery to serve gourmet pizza.

"Lennie's set another local landmark in 1994, with the first commercial brewery in Monroe County and the first brewpub in Southern Indiana," adds owner Jeff Mease, informing about a recent specialty. "Chef Fred Manion has created a gluten free pizza crust prepared with brown rice flour, tapioca flour, garbanzo flour, non-fat dry milk, cornmeal, yeast, xanthan gum, salt, sugar, olive oil, egg white and cider vinegar. Enjoy it with any of our gourmet pizza combos or load it up with your favorite toppings to make your own gourmet pizza." ?
