Fountain Square Brewery Tap Room, 1301 Barth Ave., is now open Thurs.-Fri., 4-9 p.m., and Sat.-Sun., 12-6 p.m., for beers on tap, growler fills and tours of the spacious brewery presided over by head brewer Skip DuVall, assistant Dan Krzywicki and Justin Brown, head of operations. Their beer label art fills one wall and the sweeping bar invites conversation. Fountain Square’s nicely balanced brews are also served at greater-Indianapolis restaurants and bars. Backyard Porter’s layered and creamy chocolate malt tones is already a favorite.
Head to Bloomington Brewing Co. for their exquisite Lune Blanche Belgian Blond Ale (a.k.a. The White Moon). With earthy clove and honey-like aroma, initial sweet maltiness is followed by a crisp and dry finish. Lune Blanche is light amber, medium bodied, nicely bubbly and lightly hopped. Sip while reading French poet Paul Verlaine’s “The White Moon” [in part]: “A vast and tender / calm / seems to descend / from a sky / made iridescent by the moon. / It is the exquisite hour.”
Bier Brewery added a ninth tap to their Taproom bar, and their newly expanded brewery is promising more kegs for growler fills Thurs.-Sun.
Oaken Barrel, Greenwood, just launched Epiphany Belgian Triple, with hints of fruit and caramel. On tap at the Brewpub and six-packs.
