Taxman Brewing Company’s Sept. 20 grand opening of their brewery and gastropub at 13 Baldwin St. in the heart of old town Bargersville, unveiled 36 beer taps, 4 kegged wines and a locally focused menu. Taxman’s flagship La Maison is a true-to-style aromatic, earthy Saison brewed with Martinsville-based Hunter’s honey. Abbey Blonde’s toasty malt and delicate hops flavor balances out with a touch of dried fruit esters from the Belgian yeast. More at

Black Acre’s new production facility, The Coal Factory at 5529 Bonna Ave., is two blocks south of their Historic Irvington brewpub at 5632 E. Washington St. You can get a preview of the facility at Hoosier Beer Geek’s “Tailgate for Something” Oct. 4 event starting at 11 a.m. with a $10 donation for a local charity. The HBG invite says: “You bring beer and food and you share it with everybody because they will share with you.”

St. Benedict’s Brew Works plans to open spring 2015 at the Monastery Immaculate Conception to coincide with the Town of Ferdinand’s 175th anniversary. Brewers Vince Luecke and Andy Hedinger envision a brewery and tasting room in a refurbished art studio. Indiana beer historian Bob Ostrander in “Hoosier Beer” cites several small breweries in Ferdinand in the nineteenth century.

New Brews

Upland's dark and robust Teddy Bear Kisses in 4-packs and on tap at Upland locations and other bars and restaurants is "brewed in the traditional stout method creating the velvety malt character, balanced bitter intensity, and soothing chocolate notes from long aging on fair trade cocoa nibs.” Upland’s Harvest Ale features “huge wafts of tropical fruit notes, balanced by a moderate bitterness and light tasted malt character.”

RAM has a new trio Hansel (an American Wheat), Ger-main Guy (a German Pils) and RAMmsteam (a California Common).

Tow Yard Who's That? is a classic Southern English Brown Ale with toffee, nutty, bready and roasty notes.

MashCraft’s newest is a Wet-hopped Scottish ale.

Chilly Water is releasing a Dopplebock and has Buddy’s Hop Harvest Red Ale “made with 3 different hops all grown just a couple miles from the brewery. Brewer Dan Kryzwicki used a very unique style to add these whole leaf hops to the brew AFTER the boil.” Ask about Buddy Brehob to learn what “brewing local” means to a neighborhood.
