Let’s face it: Many of the poems we write simply do not work, no matter how much we tweak and manipulate them. In this workshop, we’ll come to the table with some of our failed attempts (you know: those poems you’re too embarrassed to show anyone) and put them through various literary ringers to see what comes out the other side. At best, we will walk away with exciting renovations or auspicious new sprouts; at worst we’ll have fun putting them out of their misery and playing around in the rubble. During the workshop, we will examine a suite of revision strategies chosen by the instructor based on the participants’ submitted poems and concerns. The class will then turn toward discussion and workshopping of the participants’ poems with an eye toward possible approaches to further revision.
