Ye olde Renaissance revelry

"The Third Annual Fishers Renaissance Faire has a new home this year: It will be held at Conner Prairie, 13400 Allisonville Road. Festivities will take place Oct. 6, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and Oct. 7, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. rain or shine. Admission is $6, $3 ages 5-12.

Over 150 costumed characters will roam the grounds, and guests are encouraged to dress for the period: that of Queen Elizabeth I. (All weapons associated with a costume must be sheathed and peace tied.) Exhibitions of jousting, armed combat, period music and dance, Shakespeare vignettes, roving comedy, swordplay, SCA encampment, falconry, knighting ceremonies, noble and pirate weddings and much more will be on offer through the two days, and over 60 artisans and merchants, including food vendors, will be on hand. Merchandise from sellers is as authentic as possible, with at least 85 percent of it handmade and never mass produced. Items that will be available include walking sticks, jewelry, clothing, candles, leather goods and more.

The event is a benefit for the nonprofit Sister City Association of Fishers and celebrates the relationship between Fishers and Billericay, England, its sister city.
