"So you just spent the last two weekends Fringing on Massachusetts Avenue. You think you’re done with that neighborhood? Think again. Another big weekend is coming up with the annual Mass. Ave. Fall Gallery Walk on Sept. 8 from 5-9 p.m., followed the next day by Taste of Mass. Ave. from 3-10 p.m. Let’s start with the Gallery Walk.
For 25 years people have taken this opportunity to visit galleries, sip wine and see new work by visual artists. Galleries participating this year include 4 Star, Dean Johnson, Franklin Barry Gallery at the Frame Shop, the Indianapolis Firefighter’s Museum, Kuaba Gallery, LAMP Gallery, Loudermilk Photography Gallery, McFee Gallery and, on nearby Alabama Street, the Ruschman Gallery.
This year, a number of shops will also be open, including Precious Mettles, Silver in the City and Global Gifts. Visitors are also invited to stop in and see art and performances at some of the Avenue’s independent restaurants, including Aesop’s Tables, The Rathskeller, Deano’s Vino and Vic’s Coffee Cafe. Goulding & Wood Organbuilders will give tours, the Chatterbox will provide early evening entertainment, Disco Nights is on at American Cabaret Theatre, The Marijuana-logues is on at 10:30 at the Phoenix Theatre and The Great American Trailer Park Musical is on at Theatre on the Square.
After you rest up, you can go back to Massachusetts Avenue on Sept. 9 for the Taste. Avenue restaurants offering their delicacies will include Cafe Olivia, The Rathskeller, Elements, Hoaglin to Go, Yats, Scholars Inn and R Bistro. There will also be music by Sony recording artist Josh Hoge, the Virgin Millionaires, The Cleptoz and Peters Forrest. The ComedySportz Comedy Troupe will also perform. Taste of Mass. Ave. is presented by Radio NOW 93.1. Admission is $5.
