84 Charing Cross Road
Oaklandon Civic Theatre; directed by Marsha Grant; a Spirit & Place program
Director Marsha Grant and a fine cast of seven deliver a well-drawn portrait of the true story of a 20-year post WWII customer-store manager relationship between New York City-based writer Helene Hanff and Frank Doel of the London-based Marks & Co Book Sellers. The theme of the play by Hanff (based upon her lovingly-told memoir of the same name) snugly fits the “Living Generously” theme of this year’s Spirit & Place Festival. The set and setting themselves are worth the trip to 6450 Oaklandon St. on the historic Eastside. Through Nov. 18; 317-823-4761, ext. 3.
