• The Phoenix Theatre will open two shows in rotation that examine parenthood. Callie’s Tally is about a professional woman well into adulthood who suddenly discovers that she is pregnant. • The new theater company Heartland Actors’ Repertory Theatre will present Death and the Maiden at the Wheeler Arts Center in Fountain Square. The show is being produced under the Members’ Project Code with permission from Actors’ Equity Association, the union for professional actors and stage managers. The show is free, but donations are welcome. Death and the Maiden is set in a fragile new democracy following a totalitarian dictatorship. Gerardo Escobar has just been chosen to head the commission that will investigate the atrocities of the old regime when his car breaks down. Passing by, Dr. Roberto Miranda offers him a ride home. When Paulina, Gerardo’s wife, hears the doctor’s voice in their home, she believes the man is not the good Samaritan he claims to be, but someone more sinister. The show features local actors Lauren Morris-Bertram, Michael Shelton and Ben Tebbe, and is directed by Nick Carpenter.
