"Majolica is a ceramic known for its clear, clean color. Artist Linda Arbuckle is known as “the Queen of Majolica” because of the influence she has had on a generation of ceramic artists as both a practitioner and a teacher. A professor at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Arbuckle has won prizes here and abroad and been repeatedly published in books and magazines. “The alchemy that transforms common terracotta clay into an object that speaks in a domestic setting points the way toward parallel transformations possible in the observed moments of personal life,” she says.
Arbuckle will show her work along with a number of other artists in a show called Majolica Tradition at the AMACO/Brent Contemporary Clay Gallery, 6060 Guion Road. Go to the artists’ reception Oct. 12 from 5-7 p.m. or register for a workshop with Arbuckle on Saturday by calling 800-677-3289. For more information call Jeff Sandoe at 800-74-1600.
