• Powered by Poetry — Whirl of the Divine is a performance by Butler University students and faculty that combines spoken word, dance and music into an innovative and interdisciplinary production that artfully interprets diverse poems. Poetical works are by local poets as well as poetry from Rainer Maria Rilke, Kurt Schwitters and Czeslaw Milosz. Presenters include Deborah Asante, Michael Atwood, Heidi Fledderjohn and Norbert Krapf, and Butler performers include faculty members Ulf Goebel, Susan McGuire, Cynthia Pratt and Diane Timmerman. The event takes place at Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair St., Nov. 6, 7 p.m. and Nov. 9, 2 p.m., and is free. For information, call 317-940-9659. A children's companion piece, Powered by Poetry!: One Wild and Precious Life, will be presented Nov. 8 and 15, 1 and 3 p.m.; Nov. 9, 3:30 p.m.; and Nov. 16, 3 p.m. These performances are also free.
• The Sixth Annual Helping Hands Festival will be held Nov. 8, 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. at St. Richard’s School, 33 E. 33rd St. Local church groups and charitable organizations will display and sell the work of artisans from countries as diverse as Zimbabwe, El Salvador, Vietnam and Haiti. All merchandise for sale directly benefits developing world artisans and producers who struggle to meet their most basic needs. A special presentation will be held at 9:30 a.m. by photographer Ida Benedetto. She will unveil her Fair Trade: Postcards in Solidarity photography exhibit.
