The Family Arts Series in White River State Park presents another free event this weekend with a production of William Shakespeare's comedy Much Ado About Nothing by the Heartland Actors' Repertory Theatre. There was much to make ado about last year, as the audience numbers for The Merchant of Venice exceeded all expectations. The outdoor amphitheater was packed and the festive atmosphere was contagious. So that's tip No. 1: Come early, so you can get a good seat. Tip No. 2 is BYOS: Bring Your Own Sunglasses; the setting sun, while a stunning backdrop, might be a little tough on the eyes.
Once again, the production gathers some of the best of the best of the Indy theatrical community: Diane Timmerman and Michael Shelton play Beatrice and Benedick; the cast also includes Charles Goad, Ben Tebbe, Scot Greenwell and Robert Neal. Nathan Garrison directs.
Performances are July 31 and Aug. 1 at 8 p.m. Pre-show entertainment will take the stage at approximately 6:30 p.m. Friday: singer/songwriter Cara Jean Whalers with cellist Grover Parido. Saturday: singer/songwriter Tim Brickley playing old standards from the great American songbook. Blankets, lawn chairs and picnics welcome. The park is located at 801 W. Washington St. For more information, go to www.in.gov/whiteriver/familyArts.
