The Indiana Arts Commission is collaborating with various organizations to host Sporting Words, a Gathering of Poets Laureate June 22-28, featuring U.S. and international poets laureate.
Participants will attend youth poetry clinics and sporting activities across the state, and then convene in Indianapolis to observe, participate, write and recite poetry at sports-related activities. After studying with local poets, area youth will collaborate with the poets laureate to write and perform a variety of original poems and record a poetry recitation CD.
Some other places for Sporting Words poetry recitations include June 23-24 at the Eiteljorg Museum, a reading by Native American Denise Lajimodiere, associate poet laureate of North Dakota; the public walking tour “Authors” at Crown Hill Cemetery, June 23, 7:30-9:30 p.m., that includes a poet laureate reading at sunset; the Poet Laureate Book Fair at Ft. Benjamin Harrison June 24, 2-4 p.m.; and June 25-27, 11:15-11:45 a.m. at the Indianapolis Artsgarden.
