When Billy Joel reportedly hand picked pianist and vocalist Michael Cavanaugh for the lead role in a musical based on his work, Movin' Out, did he know he had created a competitor? After all, just a few months after Joel came to town, playing Conseco Fieldhouse with Elton John, Cavanaugh will sing "The Music of Billy Joel & More" this weekend at Connor Prairie, 13400 N. Allisonville Road, Fishers, with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Cavanaugh will perform selections from Joel's greatest hits ("Only The Good Die Young," "The Longest Time," "New York State of Mind") as well as classic rock numbers by other songwriters (John's "Crocodile Rock," Pete Townsend's "Pinball Wizard"). Shows are at 8 p.m. on July 24-25, with gates opening at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the gate. More info at www.indianapolissymphony.org.
