To help launch the opening of its current show, Art Brut - Work by Outsider Artists, Big Car hosts an art party featuring music by indie rockers The Impossible Shapes and an ensemble of guitarists playing experimental music; alternative short local films by Nick Hess, Alfred Eaker, Ed Sanders and others; and art on the walls by a host of outsider artists from Indianapolis and across the country.
Those showing work include artists linked with Greg Brown's Utrillo's Art Gallery, Very Special Arts (VSA), the Midtown Community Mental Health group, the Possum County Folk Art Gallery, as well as a few local independent outsider artists.
"By outsiders, we're talking about artists without art-school training who probably haven't shown work in galleries. We are talking about people who make art with a raw honesty," said John Clark, president of Big Car's board and one of the organizers of the show.
The opening party will be Nov. 11, beginning at 7 p.m.
Art Brut remains up in the gallery through Nov. 26 with open hours each Friday from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday, 1-4 p.m.
