Visual Art

We live in an age in which the boundaries between commercial art and fine art are increasingly porous. In Indianapolis, though, the wall (with a few notable exceptions - Dean Johnson's ONE show comes to mind) remains quaintly high. The result is that while Indianapolis is home to some remarkable illustrators and designers, people have been slow to recognize their presence as a cultural asset worthy of boasting about.

Lunch, a group show featuring seven local illustrators and opening Dec. 2 at Galerie Penumbra in Fountain Square, is an attempt to redress this grievance. Go to the opening reception between 5-9 p.m. on Friday night and check out the pictures by Mike Altman, Lynne Anglin, Penelope Dullaghan, Mark Honschke, Josh Johnson, Emma Overman and Chris Sickels. Conceived over a midday meal, the show features works in varied media. It runs through Dec. 28. Galerie Penumbra is located at 1043 Virginia Ave. in the Murphy Art Center. Call 317-508-8043 for information.
