B.J. Ward in Stand Up Opera takes the double entendre to new heights. You'll attend because Ward's a familiar face for aficionados of Frasier, Mad About You, ER, etc. Followers of The Fantastiks phenomenon will recall Ward as The Girl. You'll leave a fan of Puccini, Verdi, Mozart and that other Floyd - Carlisle, whose opera Susannah sports a lilting "Ain't It a Pretty Night?"
B.J. Ward appears with pianist Joseph Thalken at Clowes Memorial Hall on the campus of Butler University March 31 at 8 p.m., preceded by a pre-performance talk with James Caraher at 7:15 p.m. in the Krannert Room.
Ward is today's one-woman opera-advocate, picking up from the legendary Anna Russell, whose set-up of Wagner's Ring Cycle has been proclaimed as the impetus for two whole generations of opera-goers.
Now, in the nick of time for a seeming lost generation, comes B.J. Ward with a sense of humor as sly as her smile and a voice as good as her looks.
