"When photographer Mpozi Mshale Tolbert died suddenly earlier this year, the city lost one of its most generous and approachable creative individuals. As a photographer for the Indianapolis Star, Mpozi was a regular presence documenting all manner of public events. But he was also a fine art photographer. “Everything he shot had heart,” said fellow Star photographer Bob Scheer. “It had a soul to it. He didn’t compromise when he took pictures. He never shot to please someone else. He did it his way.” The Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art will present a showcase of Mpozi’s work with a public opening and reception on Friday, Sept. 22 from 6-9 p.m. The show will run through Oct. 21. iMOCA is located at 340 N. Senate Ave. For more information call (317) 634-6622 or go to www.indymoca.org.
