"Motus Dance Theatre is a collaborative outfit that has been providing a platform for the city’s up-and-coming choreographers. Their new production, Unwrapped, will give these artists — along with a guest from the theater community — a chance to explore holiday stories, experiences and traditions in a performance incorporating modern dance, spoken word and song.
“Everyone has a unique holiday story, experience or tradition,” says Motus’ founder and president, Katie Kasper. “Even though they may vary greatly, these experiences bind us all to one another. We’ve made a conscientious effort to seek out holiday experiences from a broad range of backgrounds and religions. They really illustrate that we are more alike than different.”
Choreography for Unwrapped is being offered by Motus core artists Heidi Keller Phillips, Vanessa Stowers Flora, Emily Bhatti and Debra Silveus, all of whom will also be performing. Michael Bachman will be on board as guest director. Bachman, who got his start with the Butler Theatre Department, has also worked with Susurrus, No Exit Theatre and the Orkestra Projekt. Andrew McGaha serves as Motus’ resident visual artist.
Unwrapped will be presented at Broad Ripple High School Dec. 8-9 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door, $5 with student ID. For more information call 317-407-2921.
