"The Phoenix Theatre will produce the regional premiere of Nijinsky’s Last Dance for a limited run: Oct. 12-22. The one-man biography with dance-inspired movement traces the life of Vaslav Fomitch Nijinsky, the Russian dancer who changed the public’s perception of the art of dance, and whose influence changed ballet and laid the groundwork for modern dance.

Nijinsky’s Last Dance is set in a Swiss sanitarium in 1919, two years after the dancer made his final public appearances in South America. Though his career was just nine years long, Nijinsky became a legend for his gravity defying leaps, his revolutionary choreography and a personal magnetism that attracted men and women alike. Sadly, no moving images were ever made of Nijinsky; written accounts of his dancing are all that succeeding generations know about his skill. Former Dance Kaleidoscope lead dancer Ricardo Melendez stars as the title character.

Performances are Thursdays at 7 p.m., Fridays-Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25, $15 for those 24 and under. To purchase tickets, call 317-635-PLAY, www.phoenixtheatre.org. The Phoenix is located at 749 N. Park Ave.
