The Indianapolis Marion County Public Library's annual visual arts celebration of Black History Month, Meet the Artists, opens Feb. 3 at Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair St. The show will feature 16 artists: Heath Holland (mixed media), Kevin D. Green (mixed media), Eric Shelton (mixed media), Audrey McFarland (mixed media), Tanya Jones (acrylic & steel sculpture), Nicole D. Powell (digital art), Michael Evans (acrylic), Juniues Chapttam (oil), Diane Elliott (mixed media), D. DelReverda- Jennings (mixed media sculpture), Christi Curry (clay sculpture), Brett M. Allen (mixed media sculpture), Ivery Wilson-Teague (mixed media sculpture) and Onye Ndika (table top display). Also on display will be works by Dayton, Ohio, artist Derrick Davis (pastels) and Lithonia, Ga., artist Vincent Christie (photography).
The "Meet the Artists Gala" will be held from 6-10:30 p.m. Meet the artists and enjoy performances from Urban Vibes, an urbanized Western drumming troupe; the Iibada Dance Company; jazz vocalist Brenda Williams; and poet Tasha Jones. An African-American fashion show, "Old School Meets New School Fashion," will be presented by designer Raymond Gray. Local authors will sign copies of their latest works: Tasha Jones (Silent Killer), Nicole Kearney (Open the D.O.O.R.: Five Steps to Define Our Own Reality), Greg Stallworth (Double Deceived: A Novella Regarding the Issue of Infidelity), Brian Anderson-Payne (The Music of the Message) and Theresa McMiller (Sensual Sovereigns).
A free workshop, "Artist Workshop: Presentation and Design," will be offered Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. at Central Library in the Riley Meeting Room. Presenters will be Billy and Claudia Taylor, owners of The Art Store.
