Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra; Conner Prairie; Aug. 10-11
Fun-filled evening replete with trappings of Mardi Gras, from the draping of beads at the point of entry, to the glitter along the walkways abetted by the tastes of Yats and New Orleans’ special label beer served up by World Class Beverages, and the opening strutting by the Pride of Indy Band leading the swan float through the audience. Guest conductor Jeff Tyzik led the ISO players and a special combo through his arrangements of Ellington, Waller, Berlin and Gillard. The star was trumpeter, song stylist and stand-up comedian Byron Stripling, having the best time giving us a great time as we sang along. He was at home doing take-offs on Armstrong and Danny Kaye. Even the weather loved it, with a welcome breeze.
