"Knowing" on DVD

Director Alex Proyas (The Crow, Dark City, I, Robot) makes an attempt at a suspenseful and eerie thriller, but Knowing pays off more like a latter-day M. Night Shyamalan film. The plot is interesting enough. An unearthed time capsule 50 years old contains a piece of paper with a series of dates predicting every huge disaster for the next 50 years. Nicolas Cage stars as a college professor whose son has received the paper. Can the professor prevent the last few disasters on the list, including possible Armageddon? Knowing has the same feel of Proyas' best work, Dark City. Very creepy and ominous. However, that film's payoff was far more satisfying. The end of Knowing feels cheap, leaving the audience wondering why we wanted to watch it in the first place. 115 minutes. DVD INFO: Includes a commentary track by Proyas and featurettes.
