Powerful and poignant, a company of seven presented Nicholas Owens' choreographic interpretations of a range of music and lyrics. As always, athleticism, fluidity of movement and clarity of storytelling marked each of the eight, distinctive short works. The arc from "Calling You" and "South African Ballet" to "Celebration: African Finale" showed a journey across continents and within our own continent. Why are we here, who are we, what can we become, when is the time, how is it best to attain? Stories interweave and merge into each other as dancers reveal individual and corps emotions and attitudes. The packed audience and passers-by who saw and stopped had fun with "Mr. Bojangles," "What's Goin' On" and "Grapevine." Joining Owens were dancers Tamara Ammons-Jones, Arika Casey, Lalah Hazelwood, Gregory Manning, Adrienne Jackson and Turiya Vorhis. Visit www.kenyettadancecompany.com.
