The Spring Writer’s Symposium: An Evening with Jill Nelson, a freelance journalist for 20 years and author, will be held at the Madame Walker Theatre Center, 617 Indiana Ave., March 11 at 6 p.m.
Nelson, a native New Yorker, most recently authored Finding Martha’s Vineyard: African Americans at Home on an Island, and her memoir, Volunteer Slavery: My Authentic Negro Experience, was a national best-seller and won an American Book award. She is a regular contributor to the Village Voice and MSNBC.com, and her work has appeared in Essence, the New York Times, the Nation, The New York Review of Books and USA Today, among other publications.
