The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra will present “Sci-Fi Spectacular” featuring music from film and television March 24-26. Jack Everly conducts, and special guests include Walter Koenig, “Mr. Chekov” in the original Star Trek television series and films, as the narrator; Broadway actor and singer Mike Eldred; vocalist Kristin Plumley; and the “Sci-Fi-Ettes” vocal ensemble.
The program will showcase many works by John Williams, including the main themes and selections from the various Star Wars films, plus selections from the film scores to Superman, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T. and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, among others.
Other highlights will include Koenig as narrator for thematic elements from Bernard Herrmann’s score to the sci-fi classic The Day the Earth Stood Still, and a medley of sci-fi television themes from hit shows. The program also will be enhanced by lasers and other theatrical lighting and effects. The theater lobby will contain sci-fi displays featuring memorabilia from classic films and shows.
Following the evening concerts, Everly and Eldred will host a special “Encores with Jack” presentation in the Wood Room that will include an interactive presentation with music, film clips and a demonstration of a Theremin, an electronic instrument, plus other surprises. Koenig also will meet and greet audience members and sign autographs in the lobby following the evening performances.
