The annual Indy Pride celebration will conclude this week will a bevy of events, leading up to the festival and parade Saturday.
IN Pride 2007 Educational Seminars will take place June 8, 6-8 p.m. at the Phoenix Theatre, 749 N. Park Ave. Seminar topics include HIV/ AIDS update and heart disease, and door prizes will be given away. Immediately following the seminars, there will be a reception.
The main events are June 9, when the IN Pride 2007 Parade & Festival are held. The parade begins at 10 a.m. at the corner of College and Massachusetts Avenue. It will then proceed down Massachusetts Avenue to Vermont Street, ending at University Park. The festival begins at 11 a.m. in the park, and features a full day of entertainment. Headliners include Amuka, Ultra Nate and Fredrick Ford (see preview in music section). Plus, there is a food court, informational booths, alcohol/beverage tent and vendors.
There will be a special showing of Sordid Lives in the War Memorial Auditorium at 2 p.m. Del Shores (writer of Sordid Lives and Southern Baptist Sissies, see theater preview) will be the parade grand marshall and will introduce the film. The festival will run through 7 p.m.
The next day, June 10, the IN Pride 2007 Cookout will be held from noon-4 p.m. at the Pagoda in Garfield Park. Food provided! That night, events wrap up with the Back Alley T-Dance at the Metro on Massachusetts Avenue from 4-7 p.m. Cover charge is $5, and there will be door prizes.
