"Three stars (R)
Adrien Brody, Diane Lane, Ben Affleck, Bob Hoskins
George Reeves (Affleck at his best), star of The Adventures of Superman TV series, was a frustrated would-be romantic who lived large and died at the age of 45, naked and bloody, the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Maybe. Hollywoodland spends too much time on the efforts of mangy private detective Louis Sano (Brody) to reopen the Reeves death investigation. As a result, the filmmakers relegate the life and the death of Reeves to the B-story. So even in his own movie, George Reeves doesn’t get to be the leading man. This may score points for the filmmakers in Ironyland, but it makes for a frustrating movie-watching experience. 126 minutes. DVD INFO: Separately packaged anamorphic widescreen and fullscreen editions are available: See the above capsule for my usual tirade. Both versions include a commentary track, deleted scenes and featurettes.
