"Regardless of what the paper may have said last week, the second United States of Mind Hip Hop Summit is this Saturday, July 22 from 2-9 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Service Center, 40 W. 40th St.

You will hear music by Twilight Sentinels, The Philosophy, Black Soil Project, DJ Top Speed, DJ Dicky Fox, Undefeatable Beats and more, including The 16th Dynasty, 2004 Battle of the Bands finalists, and noted regional hip-hop vets Blackberry Jam combined with Superteams’ Black Gnostics. Plus, the showcase will feature a BMX Demo facilitated by Rock the Skatepark at the Major Taylor. Skatepark event organizer and skatepark founder Solar Power also is a member of Blackberry Jam. Other events include a graffiti expo and breakdance battle. A panel discussion on the status of hip-hop is the featured attraction in this year’s Summit.

Admission to the festival is $10 for adults, and $5 for those under 16.

United States of Mind grew out of its old location and is currently renovating their new location.
