Out of town In the world of classical music, Central Indiana is famous for the renowned USA International Harp Competition. The event returns to Bloomington for its 15th anniversary competition. The USA International Harp Competition is the largest and most prestigious of its kind worldwide. Bloomington will play host to this global musical event and over 4,000 local and international guests for 10 days beginning July 1.
Attendees will enjoy free daily performances on the Indiana University campus by 53 premier young harpists from 17 countries around the world. July 11, the competition crescendos to a finale when the top three contenders compete in a performance with the Indiana University Festival Orchestra.
For the competitors, the stakes are high. The gold medal winner will receive a unique commemorative gold harp valued at $55,000 as part of the first-prize package, as well as debut recitals in New York and London, a CD recording on Egan Records label and a $5,000 cash prize.
In addition to the competition performances, the Master Harpists Concert Series will bring in five of the world’s most acclaimed harpists for performances.
