Photo by Angel Hess Comedy Central’s Jade Esteban Estrada will debut his one-man musical comedy ICONS: The Lesbian and Gay History of the World, Vol. 1 and ICONS: The Lesbian and Gay History of the World, Vol. 2 at the Alley Theatre, 1716 N. Illinois St., from Nov. 4-20.
Most recently known for his popular appearances on The Graham Norton Effect on Comedy Central, Estrada is also known as “the first gay Latin star” (Out Magazine). Estrada’s show ICONS is a take on the lesbian and gay history of the world. In Vol. 1, the self-proclaimed “creative non-fiction performing artist” portrayed Sappho, MichelAngelo, Oscar Wilde, Gertrude Stein, Sylvia Rivera and Ellen DeGeneres. Estrada digs deeper into the hearts of the movers and shakers of the gay history spotlight with his new characters for Vol. 2: Alexander the Great, Queen Christina of Sweden, Susan B. Anthony, Billy Jean King, Harvey Milk and Sept. 11 hero Mark Bingham.
Vol. 1 plays Thursdays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays at 3 and 8 p.m. Vol. 2 plays Fridays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Tickets are $15. Call 926-8888.
