On Tuesday, Nov. 23, Budweiser presents "Fight Night" at the Pepsi Coliseum. North American Boxing Council Featherweight Champion Kristy "Rose" Follmar (13(9 KOs)-1) will fight one of her toughest opponents to date, Franchesca Alcanter (15(8 KOs)-5-1), for the vacant NABC Super Featherweight title. Follmar, from Northwest Indiana, lives in Indianapolis and works for Fox's Morning News. Her fights have been featured on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights. Alcanter, a former Miss Hawaiian Tropic, is from Kansas City, Mo. Like Follmar, Alcanter is not just another pretty face. Both have wins over highly rated Liz Drew, and both suffered losses to Mia St. John, though Follmar's loss was highly disputed. Follmar's non-stop style brought standing ovations from the crowd between every round in her fight last November against Shelby Walker.
Also on the card, five-time Indiana Golden Glove Champion Backlin Medrano (9 (8 KOs)-1-1), who is trained by former female boxing superstar Christy Martin, will challenge Francisco Zepeda (13 (8 KOs)-0) for his NABC Lightweight Championship.
While most local shows at the Pepsi Coliseum draw 6,000 to 10,000 fans, this card is expected to draw the largest crowd in the nearly 10-year history of the "Fight Night" series.
Tickets are priced at $20 and $15 and are available at the State Fairgrounds box office and all Ticketmaster locations. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the preliminary fights begin at 7 p.m. For additional information, call F & F Berns Boxing, 726-1123.
