"Fall isn’t just for new prime-time shows; it’s also when Indianapolis’ local stations change their daytime and late-night programming. Some of them, anyway.
Here’s a rundown. (All changes are effective Sept. 10 unless otherwise noted.)
WISH (Channel 8) and WTHR (Channel 13) will keep their non-prime-time schedules as is. The only changes on WRTV (Channel 6) are the addition of the new lifestyle series The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet at 10 a.m. weekdays, replacing Dr. Keith Ablow, and the move of Extra to 5:30 p.m., from 7 p.m., to make room for the local ABC affiliate’s new 7 p.m. newscast.
WXIN (Channel 59), WTTV (Channel 4) and WNDY (Channel 23) will be doing some significant revamping.
New programs on WXIN include an hour of game shows: Merv Griffin’s Crosswords and Temptation from 1-2 p.m.; The Steve Wilkos Show, hosted by the former Jerry Springer bodyguard (3 p.m.); Family Guy reruns (7 and 11 p.m.); the celeb-expose show TMZ (midnight) and Reno 911 (1 a.m.).
The earlier Family Guy will be preceded by an hour of The Simpsons from 6-7 p.m.; the later episode pushes Seinfeld to 11:30 p.m. The timeslots also are a-changing for Jerry Springer (11 a.m. — replacing Greg Behrendt — and 2 p.m.) and Scrubs (1 and 3 a.m.).
On Saturdays, WXIN is adding back-to-back episodes of Family Guy from 6:30-7:30 p.m. beginning Oct. 6 (Seinfeld will sandwich those at 6 and 7:30). Also coming: The Bill Polian Show (10:30 p.m. Sept. 8) and back-to-back Chappelle’s Show (midnight to 1 a.m.). Sundays — Monday mornings, actually — it’ll be Stargate: SG1 (midnight beginning Oct. 7) and Stargate Atlantis (1 a.m. Sept. 16).
Sister station WTTV is Courtroom Central. Judge Mathis at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. and People’s Court at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. (Sept. 3). The new-to-syndication sitcom Two and a Half Men joins the lineup at 6 and 7 p.m. weekdays, as well as 7 and 7:30 p.m. Saturdays (Sept. 15). And the late-night lineup is reconfigured: It’ll be Everybody Loves Raymond at 10, followed by Still Standing, Friends, Sex and the City and two episodes of Will and Grace.
Saturdays, Channel 4 will air two hours of Degrassi: The Next Generation (noon to 2 p.m. beginning Sept. 8), TMZ (9 p.m. Sept. 15) and two hours of Law & Order: SVU (11 p.m. Sept. 22).
WNDY adds Judge David Young (10 a.m.) and Christina’s Court (11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.), Law & Order: Criminal Intent (4 p.m. Sept. 17), George Lopez (6 p.m.). and Half & Half (1:30 a.m. Sept. 17 and 2:30 a.m. Sept. 23).
On Saturdays, Channel 23 will carry Cold Case repeats (7 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. Sept. 22). Also new to the lineup: The CBS Evening News at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday beginning Sept. 1.
That’s it. Memorize it; we’ll have a quiz next week.
