Tim and Avi’s Salvage Store is sponsoring The Shovel Show, a silent auction benefiting the Harrison Center for the Arts and the Central Avenue United Methodist Church Food Pantry. The auction will be held in May 2004, but you have until March 1 to turn a shovel into a work of art. After years and years of collecting old shovels, Tim and Avi’s is putting them to a good use. Go to Tim and Avi’s at 2442 N. Central and pick up a shovel. Then you can weld, paint, sculpt, engrave or otherwise embellish it in whatever manner you see fit. Many prominent local artists have already gotten their shovels — you can call Tim at 925-6071 to see who has committed.

Proceeds from the sale of the finished works will be equally divided between the Harrison Center and the food pantry.
