The Indianapolis Art Center will celebrate the traditional Mexican holiday, El Dia de los Muertos — the Day of the Dead — on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 3-8 p.m. with a free festival. This the IAC’s eighth annual celebration and should attract more than 2,500 people. The festival rejoices in the lives of those who have passed on and carries the belief that the celebration will bring their spirits back for the day. The Art Center’s festival will feature national and local entertainment, an exhibition of altars and outdoor shrines, hands-on cultural activities for all ages, works for sale, traditional foods and an opportunity for guests to add mementos to a community altar. This year the IAC welcomes the Sones de Mexico Ensemble, Chicago’s premier Mexican folk music group, recently nominated for a Latin Grammy for Best Folk Album of 2007.
