"Three years ago, Brian Payne, head of the Central Indiana Community Foundation, began talking with people around the city about an idea: What if Indianapolis created a cultural trail, an urban pathway that people could use to explore the city, see its sights and generally have a good time? The more people heard about the cultural trail, the more they liked it.
Now Payne’s idea is becoming a reality. The Indianapolis Cultural Trail launch will take place Oct. 14 with an Information Fair from 10 a.m. until noon followed by trail tours from noon until 2 p.m. The launch will unveil plans for the Cultural Trail and introduce the public to the trail’s 7.5-mile route and design elements. The Cultural Trail will serve as the downtown hub for Central Indiana’s greenway trail system and as an icon for the urban development and cultural attractions in Indianapolis.
The public is invited to join civic and community leaders at the English Building on the corner of North and Alabama streets for this family event. People interested in taking part in the afternoon bike tours of nearby sections of the Cultural Trail route should RSVP so planners know how many riders to expect.
