If it's First Friday, that means there's a mess o' stuff on offer at Big Car Gallery in Fountain Square's Murphy Art Center. In Big Car's main space, see work by a bevy of local, regional, national and international video and sound artists, as well as musical offerings by Ensemble 48 from Butler University (playing a soundtrack to the silent film Man With a Movie Camera and other experimental musicians and groups playing in multiple locations). In its street-level space, Big Car hosts the installation "Unified Fields" by music and art duo Mana2. These Big Car events are sponsored by Microcinema in partnership with the Indianapolis Museum of Art's Toby Theater.
But that's not all. Big Car will also start a new series of two-piece art shows by nationally known pop and surreal artists called "Le Petite Mort." Participating artists, whose work is illustration-based and has been popularized by such magazines as Juxtapoz and High Fructose, offer potential buyers a price break for their work. This month's artist is Shanna Peterson, who grew up amid Southern California's drag racing scene. For more information go to www.shaunapeterson.com.
Everything happens at 1043 Virginia Ave., Suite 215 and beyond, March 6 from 7 p.m.-1 a.m. with free admission. Information at www.bigcar.org.
