"One and a half stars (PG-13)
Diane Keaton, Mandy Moore, Lauren Graham, Piper Perabo
Annoyingly clichéd feature-length sitcom about an overbearing mother (Keaton, in what may be her worst performance to date) trying to manipulate one of her daughters (Moore) into marriage. This is one of those movies where someone says or does something comical, odd or stupid and the camera cuts to a reaction shot from the family dog; where a little kid walks up to a stranger and says, “I’ve got a penis and you’ve got a wagina” (yes, “wagina”) and we’re supposed to giggle; where the women display their unbreakable girl-power bond by singing a golden oldie together. Nooooo! 102 minutes.
DVD INFO: Two separately packaged DVDs are available: One preserves the film in the anamorphic widescreen format, while the other hacks off nearly a third of the picture for the fullscreen (aka pan & scan) version. Shop carefully. Both versions include featurettes, an iVillage pregnancy ad (huh?) and a music video by the Weepies.
