Clowes Hall; Nov. 8
Wow, the audience ... It's just so big. "That's what she said." B.J. Novak, writer, actor and supervising producer of NBC's hit sitcom The Office, performed his stand-up act Thursday night at Clowes Hall. In awe of the size of the crowd, he began his act with the ever-popular "That's what she said" line from The Office, gaining the mainly college crowd's attention right from the start. If you haven't seen Novak as Ryan Howard on his hit TV show, you may have caught him "punking" Hilary Duff on MTV's reality show Punk'd. Either way, his sarcastic humor carries through to his stand-up in a good way. Novak's 45-minute performance had the audience laughing. His material ranged from an encounter with a Butler student to a tribute to Wikipedia, and a hilarious spoof on why pandas are endangered. Novak even included a green frog puppet for a portion of his act. Although he had nothing on Kermit the Frog, the surprising entertainment extra sustained the attention of late teens and 20-somethings, myself included.
