Comedy Central’s Dave Attell will perform at Funny Bone May 7-8; 844-0300. Dave Attell trawls back alleys and bars, unearthing the bleary-eyed and barely clothed for Comedy Central’s Insomniac with Dave Attell. Think of him as a Charles Kuralt for the after-hours set, except more twisted and sarcastic than earnest and homey. “You see a guy with one leg,” Attell says, “he’s got a story: land mine, ’69. You see a guy with one arm, he’s got a story, too: snowblower, bottle of whiskey. You see a guy with one tooth, what would the story be? Well, uh, I like a lot of taffy.” Entertainment Weekly tagged Attell as one of the “25 Funniest People in America.” He’s a former writer for Saturday Night Live and has appeared on HBO, The Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and Everybody Loves Raymond. “I went clothes shopping with a friend of mine. He bought a pair of overalls. He’s like, ‘Dave, what goes with this?’ I don’t know; they’re overalls. I guess a banjo. I know what doesn’t go with overalls: jobs and women.” Attell is appearing with Artie Widgery May 7-8 at the Funny Bone, 3625 E. 96th St. Show times are 8 and 10:30 p.m. VIP tickets are $35; general admission can be had for $30.
