"This year, 32 paintings will be competing in Art vs. Art, the annual smack-down sponsored Indy arts collective Primary Colours. The final judging involves four rounds of head-to-head competition as two randomly selected paintings square off on the stage of the Fountain Square Theatre and the audience cheers wildly for their fave. An electronic applause meter sends the winner to the next round and the losing painting faces the threat of destruction by chainsaw, acid bath, samurai sword or other diabolical means as determined by a spin of the Wheel of Death. The painting is saved if someone purchases it.
Artists take home 70 percent of the auction price. Last painting standing wins the crown and $2,500. The event is Sept. 7. Doors open at 8 p.m. with cocktails and DJ performances. Bouts start at 10 p.m. For more information, go to www.IndyMojo.com and www.artvsart.com.
