"The annual Taste of Africa/ African Festival kicks off July 26 with a free African film festival at Tabernacle Presbyterian Church (418 E. Central Ave.). Film showings begin at 6 p.m. The film festival serves as a kind of prelude for the African Festival’s main events, to be held at Shortridge Middle School (3401 N. Meridian St.) July 27-28. Friday from 6-10 p.m. experience The Taste of Africa. The event features a collection of authentic African foods and drinks from 36 different countries, and also includes a fashion show, live music and an awards ceremony. On Saturday, the African Festival swings into gear from 10 in the morning until 8 p.m. with an African ethnic marketplace featuring vendors selling food, art and clothing. The festival will also include performing artists, entertainment, poetry, an art exhibition and children’s activities. Admission is $3.
