The Phoenix Theatre and Theatre on the Square will bring new material to their Indianapolis stages this weekend.

The Phoenix will produce the world premiere of Zina Camblin’s And Her Hair Went With Her April 19-May 13. The play offers a perspective on African-American women through the eyes of Jasmine, a 50-ish woman who has given up on advancing her status, and Angie, a 20-something woman who believes that she can be whatever she sets her mind to be. The two women work as stylists in a salon, and the customers who come through provide fodder for the lead characters’ views of the world.

Playwright Camblin will portray Angie plus customers, and Milicent Wright (often seen on Indiana Repertory Theatre stages) will play Jasmine plus customers.

Performances are Thursdays at 7 p.m., Fridays-Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25; $15 for students and seniors. Opening weekend, all tickets are just $15. For reservations, call 317-635-PLAY.

TOTS will bring Reefer Madness: The Musical to its stage April 20-May 20. It is a re-working of the camp 1936 movie that shows the “devastating” and hilarious effects of marijuana on our clean, wholesome way of life. One toke can turn even a good-hearted, God-fearing, all-American kid into a raving lunatic obsessed with sex and violence ... and singing and dancing.

Shows are Fridays-Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 5 p.m. Tickets are $25; students and seniors $15. Call 317-685-TOTS
