Phedre, Jean Racine’s 1677 play based on Euripides’ Greek tragedy, tells the story of a queen who falls in love with her stepson. Politics, a lust for power and rape ensue. “It’s this wonderful toxic combination of raw political power and sexual passion crashing into each other,” director John Green says. Phedre will be staged by the Butler University Theatre Department Oct. 8-11, 8 p.m. and Oct. 11-12, 2 p.m. in the Lilly Hall Studio Theatre at Butler. Tickets are $10, $5 for students and seniors.
