Clowes Memorial Hall; Feb. 23
Graceful artistry is to Pilobolus dance what bel canto is to Verdi opera. The style in each is toward brilliant movement/vocal display and purity of visual/tonal qualities. This Pilobolus troupe is both lithe and strong, enhancing our spatial encounter at Clowes with intellect, sensuality and wonderment. The seven dancers are in the passing, present and future movement in never-ending continuum. They engage each other and us simultaneously. Closing a demanding program of favorites, their “Second Day” is pure genius, taking us into the mind, hand and delight of a Creator who separates the waters into spheres, inherently inventing flight and swimming, clouds and reflections, all in the cyclical reuse and recycling of this commonplace commodity, which commands serious business and utter delight. We witnessed it happening “and it was good”; actually very, very good.
