Lyn Ford: “What Folks Told Me, And What They Didn’t”
Storytelling Arts of Indiana;
Indiana History Center; Feb. 2
Lyn Ford is a quiet storyteller. Her programs aren’t the performance pieces many other tellers create. Instead of using theatrics, Ford allows the stories to gently wash over you, as if you were sitting on her front (or back, for the more grown-up tales) porch, drinking in her family’s stories with her. Her stories Saturday night mainly dealt with said family: an eclectic cultural mix from Native American to Scottish to African-American, giving her a wide range of folk tales and experiences to draw from. Relating details of growing up that many of us can relate to (her mother: “I’m going to knock you into next week!”), she makes you feel right at home.
