Fringe review: Andrea Merlyn's Book of Secrets

They Touch in Flood

PaperStrangers Performance Group; Indianapolis

3 stars

An elaborate, choreographed piece that examines the

connection between raw human sexual desire and love, the show is divided into

sections: starting with the courting process and ending with the consequences

of a sexual encounter — giving the show a kind of narrative structure

that would've otherwise felt lacking. The performers throw themselves

wholeheartedly into the show and much of the dance is impressive, though I

might have enjoyed the show more had it been confined exclusively to dance.

While providing a loose context for the dancers' actions, the recitation and

dialogue between characters seemed to take away from the performers' real

strengths at times.

Theatre on the Square, Stage Two: Thursday, Aug. 26, 6:00 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 28, 10:30 p.m.
