ComedySportz Arena: 721 Mass Ave. A travelogue that manages to overcome the handicap of being staged as a
vacation slideshow, "The Road to Nowhere" is breezy, thoughtful and
happily nerdy. A nervous comic bookstore worker turned Fringe performer, Hefner
sets out for a trip down Route 66 with his Dad's ashes in tow, ready to
discover himself and destined to see his "crazy, angry, anarchist sex
store worker... girlfriend in Canada." His stories have a winning,
sympathy-inducing awkwardness, and he's capable of clever turns of phrase (say,
the pack of "hungry hungry hippies" to
which he feels obligated to give his trunkful of
Aug. 25, 6 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 28, 1:30 p.m.
