Review: 'Animals out of Paper'

Lindsay Webb;

3.5 stars

ComedySportz Arena: 721 Mass Ave. Webb, a

confident, likably gruff, very funny stand-up hailing from Australia, brings to

the Fringe a 40-minute hodgepodge of material ostensibly concerning religion.

Webb's skills lay more on the performing than writing side: If the show is a

little short on substantial, original observations about Christianity, he makes

up for it by working the crowd so effectively, always ready with a quip. And

it's charming to watch him negotiate linguistic differences between Americans

and Australians. During his first performance, he misguidedly explained what a

farm is ("it's what you call a ranch"), but his reminder that

"rooting" equals "making love" was entirely necessary,

especially for some later "root"-based wordplay.
