Arden Theatre Company; Alley Theater; March 30-April 1.
Who knew fundraising could be so much fun? MC Taylor Martin started off the show with some impressive magic, and came back between acts in various costumes, wowing us with his (or sometimes I think it was “her”) tricks. The beginning of the program showcased shorter pieces, all quite funny. Conversation with a Crab was undoubtedly the best part of Act 1. Josh Ramsey, playing the part of a cocky crab that is too smart for his own good, was a real treat to watch. During the second act, we were shown some rather macabre skits, one being about a dad letting his daughter shadow him at his work … as a sniper. They saved the best till act three, in Matthew E. Graber’s uproarious My Dinner with a Zombie, which had me in tears, I was laughing so hard. Great writing, acting and directing were plentiful in this skit, with Adam Hesse playing the best zombie you could possibly imagine. All this craziness was to raise money for the Third Annual Indianapolis Fringe Festival, coming this summer, from Aug. 24-Sept. 2. Over $4,000 was raised. The show runs again this weekend, call 926-8888 for info.
