Comedy You Ted Nugget fans can tell The Nuge to scoot over, Derek Richards is the real Motor City Madman. Don’t believe me? Just check his Web site, www.derekrichards.com: “Picture the serious side of life as a plate glass window. Now, imagine a cement truck barreling toward it at 100 mph. The maniac behind the wheel? Derek Richards.”
Whoa! What a maniac. The serious side of life may never recover.
Web site: “A Detroit native who entered comedy after being kicked off the air at a radio station — the guy IS edgy — Richards’ act is fast, fresh and at times fanatical.” Yeah, maybe he’s edgy or maybe he just sucks on the radio.
If Richards’ new CD Sensitivity Training, with its blunted pot shots at Def Lepperd’s one-armed drummer and customer service at Home Depot, is what counts for edgy, then the whole genre has come in off the ledge, stuffed itself into a cardigan sweater and put some milk on the stove to warm. Of course, maybe I’m just being too edgy.
Derek Richards is appearing at the Funny Bone, 3625 E. 96th St., March 17-20. For tickets, reservations or more information, call 844-0300.
